Jeffery Stride CV

I was born in Southampton, England in 1946 and educated at King Edward VI School in the same city. I studied painting at Camberwell School of Art, London, graduating in 1968. After living in Wales for three years I moved to south-west France with my wife, Sally. We have lived there ever since, raising our three children and living from the sale of our paintings.

Since 1990 we have opened our studio-gallery each summer at Vers in the Lot.

Three of my paintings were selected as official gifts from the town of Cahors for Tony Blair, Jacques Chirac and Lionel Jospin during the Anglo/French summit there in 2001. My work has also inspired the choreographer, Brigitte Dumez to write the ballet “Orion”. The scenery we produced  was described by the critic of Le Monde as “scintillating”.
One of my large paintings hangs in the Capitole, the famous town-hall of Toulouse. Others are in the collections of the Conseil Générale du Lot, the Welsh Arts Council, the Southern Arts Association, and various préfectures, hospitals and universities throughout France and England.

In 2005 I spent three months painting in Bhopal, India – infamous site of the world's worst ever industrial disaster – in order to raise money for the Bhopal Medical Appeal.
