The great sinuous river that flows past my home in South-west France is a major source of inspiration for me. I love the variety of it's colours: deep blue and brown during a winter drought, red after heavy rain, green, gold or yellow in the summer months. Forests of oak and maple colonise the valley walls, box and juniper cling to the rock face. This rich parchment of vegetation is printed with the glowing hieroglyphics of limestone cliffs. Peregrines nest there. Black kites and herons patrol the meanders.
The Lot valley around Vers is my Mont St. Victoire, my Arles or Pont Aven or Fontainbleau. I've spent half my life painting it.
